What is Burst Labs?

Burst Labs is the music licensing division of The Burst Collective.

This site (BurstLabs.com) is the principal method by which we make our catalog of production music and independent artists available to our clients and friends.Click here to learn more about Burst Labs and The Burst Collective.

What types of music can I find at Burst Labs?

There are two general categories of music available at BurstLabs.com :

Production Music (also commonly referred to as ‘library music,’ but we have some issues with that term and the general connotation associated with it). This is music that is instrumental by design, built and composed specifically for use in licensing for television, advertising, movies, videogames, websites, etc.

Songs are also hosted here at Burst Labs but are not covered under the general license agreement and license rates available online. We include Songs in the discovery engine and the search results because there are projects that call for vocals and lyrics as opposed to instrumental tracks, but because of the nature of our agreements with the artists represented on Burst Labs, we can’t offer the same standardized pricing structure that covers our Production Music Catalog. All Songs on our site must be licensed on a case-by-case basis, a process that begins by getting in touch with us by phone or email.

Where can I hear some samples of the music at Burst Labs?

If you’re just browsing and haven’t signed up for an account with us yet, you are able to listen to extended samples of all the music in the Lab by clicking the speaker icon (or ‘play’ button) near the music titles on the site.

Approved clients who are signed in get higher-resolution and full-length previews, as well as the ability to download anything from the site as often as needed.

Where can I buy music that I found at Burst Labs?

Our Production Music is not currently available for retail purchase, but many of the artists you hear on our site offer CDs for sale through their individual websites, and you can find quite a few of their songs at iTunes, as well. There’s a post on our blog about this very topic… you can read it here.

How do I become an approved client?

Simply fill out a client request and we’ll be in touch. Please be advised - our approval process is quite manual and dependent on humans. We try to not work all weekend, we have families, we try to see a movie or a ball game from time to time. If it takes a day to get back with you, chances are that’s what’s up.

If you fill out the form with the phone number 123-456-7890 or say you’re from Anytown, USA, we simply won’t take you seriously. Sorry, mom.

How do I request a music license for my project?

One of two ways… you can fill out a form online as long as you’re signed in, or you can print out our Rate Sheet PDF (our cue sheet - for now) and fax it back to us at 414 259 3911 (in US).

How much does it cost to use Burst Labs music?

Burst Labs rate sheet previewOur licenses range from as little as $115 to $10,000 and beyond, and is completely dependent on the type of usage (or number of copies) in your production. All rates posted at our Rate Sheet are current, and are, as most things in life, subject to change without notice.

All prices are listed in United States Dollars ($USD).

How do I pay for music licenses?

We issue an invoice based on the type of license you need, and email it to the address you provided with your account.

We accept company checks by mail and credit card payments through PayPal.

Checks should be payable to The Burst Collective and mailed to 1442 Underwood Ave, Wauwatosa, WI 53213 USA.

If you wish to pay by credit card (PayPal), shoot us an email and we’ll get the details together so you can be properly licensed pronto.

Unless you have been granted extended payment terms, payment is due when the invoice is received. License is not granted until full payment is received. For further information, please review our Terms Of Service.

How can I get the music?

By download or on DVD-Rom. Details here.
