In addition to stubbornly adding to our extensive library of reference music here at Burst HQ (see pic above… we still buy CDs, can you believe it?!), we’ve been quietly adding new production music to our library of available tracks here at Burst Labs.
We love PASTE. Always have. We’ve even advertised in their pages back when we were spending a little more time - and a lot more money - on our record label (we’re a little busy with our other endeavors right now).
They even dug Julie Moffitt (a Burst Records artist) earlier this year… her song Let Him Be was selected by PASTE editors to be featured alongside Lucinda Williams and The Shins on CD in their Feb 07 issue.
So… two cool bits of news today from our favorite music mag :
One of our favorite unsigned bands, The Real Efforts Of Real People, is comprised of two talented musicians and good people, Ben West and Kristopher Pooley.
Both have a list of credits a mile long, are touring with pop artists we know you’ve heard of (Pooley is currently the Musical Director and Keyboardist for Gwen Stefani), and they’ve created some of the vibiest and chill new music that we’ve been fortunate enough to represent for commercial licensing opportunities at Burst Labs [check out their library of music here].
We’ve been so swamped producing music for our catalog updates that we blanked on letting you all know there’s an article and in depth interview with Kristopher in last month’s Keyboard Magazine.
Halloween is almost here, and though we know most of you have wrapped up your ghoulish productions a while back, there are more than a few of you who are finding our site this week by searching for Halloween Production Music and Sound Effects.
Most of those searches also, of course, include the word ‘free’ among the search terms… while we’re not a ‘royalty-free music library,’ nor do we typically offer our music without sync fees (though we do for certain clients - check our FAQ), we always appreciate people stopping by and checking out our music and sound design.
The Gravity Music Library is getting re-energized and we’re just putting the finishing touches on the next couple of releases in the catalog.
It’s been a crazy month here at Burst HQ as we’ve zipped back and forth between dramatic trip hop and energetic rock, from tracks that relax to music that kicks your ass. Diversity + Quality… just how we like it.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Lambeau Field, and Burst’s own Old Man Malcolm has been appointed Game Operations Commander for music production at Lambeau for the 2007 Green Bay Packers football season.
Um, we’re a little giddy-goofy about this, being as we’re unabashed Packer fans. Duh.
Whether he needs to pick tracks to celebrate scores, pump audio into the stadium to jack up the crowd, or simply provide his natural abilities as a DJ for television timeouts, all the music you hear (if you’re lucky enough to score a ticket - been sold out since the 1960s) is being played for you by Old Man Malcolm.
Kings Of A&R is digging Northern Room, and from the looks of the comments at their site, they’re not alone. It’s super cool to see people responding to a project that we believe in and played a part in building.
If you can’t make it to New York this week for CMJ, check out the latest news directly from the band :
“As most of you know, Northern Room is going to New York City this week to do a showcase at the CMJ Music Marathon. These timeslots are difficult to get, and are a fantastic opportunity for us. Normally, we would just be asking for your support and prayers, but — thanks to a last-minute offer from amiestreet.com — you have the opportunity to see our show live, through the magic of the internets!”
Head over to Northern Room’s page at Amie Street and click on the ‘Videos’ tab… you’ll be able to watch a live feed from their showcase at Arlene’s Grocery tomorrow, October 17.
More updates to the songs in our production music catalog here at Burst Labs :
Check out this smooth and laid-back hip hop track featuring J Todd and the timely lyrics “put the ying against the yang and disarm your weaponry” and “all warfare is based on deception, I move like a phantom to fool your perception” :
And finally, two atmospheric and moving epic mood-rock soundscapes, with layers of swirling drama and an emotional journey upwards (all in about 2 minutes… how’s that for modest, eh?) :
While we’ve been working hard on the rebirth of the Gravity Music Library, we’ve also been quietly adding tracks here at the Lab over the past few days… if you share our diverse musical palette, we suspect you’ll dig a few of these productions.
Here’s two new rock songs with a slight alternative bent (what exactly is ‘alternative’ anymore, anyway?), ripe for commercial consumption and licensing :
We’ve also managed to get a few other tracks finished this week : some Hip Hop with vocals, a dark and twisted singer/songwriter dealing with his afflictions, and two super dynamic/triumph-of-the-human-spirit atmospheric instrumentals.
All of these tracks are teasers for the next round of full CDs we’re in the middle of producing right now. Instead of holding out for every last detail to get wrapped up, we’re uploading new production music as we go. Hope you dig. More tomorrow. [dh]
Way back in 1997 we had a simple idea. We wanted to offer commercial music users real music, filled with genuine musicians playing live tracks, dripping with energy and vibe.
Remember… this was back in the day when production music libraries were dominated by corporate, lukewarm, safe music beds (perfect for slideshows and film-strips), and when so-called ‘hip’ and ‘trendy’ libraries offered cheesy, rip-off, sound-alike tracks.
So we launched the Gravity Music Library and proceeded to whittle away on occasional updates in our recording studio, Burst HQ, deep behind the Cheddar Curtain (tip of the ol’ hat to Greg Koch for that one).
We’ve been busy putting the finishing touches on six brand new Gravity library volumes. Here’s some selected highlights from the first 3 brand new releases :
Exotic Dancer- from GV1040 Lubricant [r&b]
Bushwhacker- from GV1041 Magnetic [rock]
Holdin’ Out- from GV1039 Bump [hip hop]
Fluffer- from GV1040 Lubricant [r&b]
Arcadian Interrupt- from GV1041 Magnetic [rock]
And we’ve also got GV1042 Spindown [chill], GV1043 Boing [quirky], and GV1044 Theory [trip hop drama] on the way this month. We’ll post some more previews as soon as we master ‘em up.
To be clear, we’re providing these here for demo purposes only (and for your listening pleasure)… if you like what you hear you can, of course, contact your worldwide Groove Addicts agent (distributor for the Gravity Music Library) for full licensing information.
More soon. If you have any requests, be sure to drop them in the comments below and we’ll see what we can do about getting you guys what you want more of. In the meantime, get ready for the next degree of Gravity. [dh]
